humble pie

{Last day to win some cute vinyl wall art expressions! Not many entries so GO!}
--------------------------------------------------------------

I was bouncing around on the world wide web... actually, I think it started with a question on Twitter, which led to Google which led to a blog post from Tony Horton (creator of P90X).  I don't necessarily endorse P90X, but of allll the at home workouts, it's probably the best one. They actually have you doing some decent weight training and hard calisthenics. And you're not stuck on some machine!

Anyway, so I read this post and I believe this is why a lot of people don't see results...

Multiple types of physical activity can be very humbling for people because it exposes our weaknesses - and most people don't like being/looking bad at anything. The commitment to exercise is hard enough and now I'm asking you to do pull-ups, jump-knee-tucks, throw punches and hold Warrior 3. "That's too hard!" This is why most people never leave the yoga studio, spinning class, get off the elliptical machine or attempt something other than their 3 mile run...

Boredom, plateaus and injury are the enemy and the only way to combat them is through Variety. If you're struggling it's working. Swallow some humble pie and get busy.

I see it a lot. The same people doing the same thing that they've done for 10 years, wondering why they don't see results. One reason why people who train with us (we have an adult group training class) keep coming back is because of the variety - AND the intensity.

And by intensity, I don't mean that it's for people who are in incredible shape, but because it pushes them just beyond their comfort zone.  It's harder than what they would do if they were on their own.

It's easy to skip the push-ups, banish the squats, and never do a chin-up because no one is watching or holding us accountable.

Starting today, do more. Try something different. Something harder. Something a little out of your comfort zone.

I LOVE P90X...but I hate it too! LOL I saw GREAT results when we did it and we didn't even finish it correctly (because of traveling, etc). We looked silly doing a lot of the stuff at first, but then it started getting easier. We would do as much as we could, push ourselves, but know that nothing is going to look perfect when you first start out.

Right now, hubby has P90X with him in Iraq and I bought Power Half Hour. Then I got sick and couldn't bend over without awful pain, much less work out. Sinus stuff had me barely being able to get through everyday stuff with my 3 boys! Now, I am going to get back to it. I like that it's 30 minutes...I can do anything for the amount of time it takes me to watch a show!

that's great! it is a good workout and it pushes most people to do more than what they normally would on their own!!
