Human trafficking: staggering stats: encouraging the pedophile?

Have you seen this story?  The stats are staggering.

1200 children saved from human trafficking since 2003. But it's a drop in the bucket compared to the 230,000 children at risk of being exploited.  (That's like every kid in 400 public middle schools put together!!)

These "ring leaders" are making over 32 billion dollars for their work in human trafficking.  (Watch the video for more.)

Doma International is doing great things internationally. And I think sometimes when we hear of organizations helping overseas, we think "What about right here in the U.S.?  What about these U.S. children that are exploited every day?"

And I couldn't agree more.  Doma is an organization that is reaching out to these young women who are forced into prostitution.  The have started a movement called Project Green Light.  Project Green Light offers education to young women about the dangers of human trafficking and alerting them to the signs of alluring/offensive behavior.  Then they offer prevention through empowerment and mentoring these young women after having been victimized.  And they also offer prevention through crisis intervention.

Doma has launched this program in it's hometown of Columbus, OH and are excited about reaching out to other communities after this pilot program proves successful!

Doma has even gone so far as to open up a house for these young women (Bloom!). A place where these young ladies can receive spiritual mentorship, life skills classes and special events. Isn't that awesome?  A place for women to re-find themselves as new people in the eyes of God!!

{And side note: as I write out this post on Wednesday evening, I just became aware of a book that Amazon is selling called "The Pedophiles Guide to Love and Pleasure." **gag**  Seriously?  Talk about contributing to human trafficking!! Most girls who enter prostitution are aged 12-14. This needs to stop!!}

I'm so proud to be a supporter of Doma and the good things they are doing here in the U.S. and overseas.  These young women... these young children who cannot escape the vicious cycle of human and sex trafficking... need our help.

You can help by donating... just $1. One dollar goes a long way, and when you add it with all the other one-dollars being donated, together we could give these young women a whole new life.

{See here for official rules and prizes involved in this fundraiser!}

This is an amazing organization, and I want to get involved. I need a little time to get organized, so I'm just donating for now ... but I just can't believe this is happening in 2010 (almost 2011!).

Right after my daughter was born I read about how fathers in Thailand (or somewhere in that region) were selling their 4-6 year-old daughters into sex slavery for $250. Man, I just wanted to say, here's my freakin' money ... and take every single one of those kiddos out of harm's way. I just can't believe that this stuff not only happens, but is commonplace in some parts of the world.

It breaks my heart, especially when I look at my baby girl and see how innocent she is.

Ugh, it's so frustrating and disgusting hearing about that. Great job getting the word out there!

FYI -- Amazon has pulled the book because of user complaints. :) http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/11/11/pedophile.guide/
