Confession:
I'm always changing things up on my blog. Prior to this design, I changed about every 6 months. I'm constantly changing buttons and side bar items, pictures and profiles, what I want displayed and what I want people to have easy access to. (P.S. did you notice the 2 new tabs in my nav bar?? I know, pretty sweet. Thanks Mandy!)
So, I've been searching around for some new widgets and things to help make my blog function (and look) better. (Thanks to Kludgy Mom's Back 2 School, Back 2 Blogging challenge.) I found some really cool ones, but I didn't think they were necessary to the function of my blog.
Now, don't laugh at me, but I'm still kickin' it old school on Blogger. I haven't made the jump to Wordpress, mostly because I fear I will be spending hours and endless hours researching, getting things switched, etc etc. and I just don't have time for that... nor do I have the money to pay someone. So unless someone wants to do it for free... here I stay.
Rotating Header Tutorial
First of all, this is super cool. I've seen a few blogs that have a rotating header and I think it's a great way for readers to see something new, without having to do any work! (Perfect if you have pictures of family you would love to display!) To see the tutorial, click here. Doesn't really work for my header or blog, so I kept on a-searching til I found this...
Title SEO Tip for Blogger
So, if you know Wordpress, you know that you can make the permalink (the actual web address) different from the title of your post. This allows you to still have that cute, witty title, but have a permalink that is SEO (search engine optimization) friendly.
For Blogger, it takes an extra step, but it might be worth it in some cases. First, publish your post with the SEO friendly title. For example, if you're writing about the delicious chocolate layer cake you made for your daughter's 1st birthday, you could title it "Double Layer Chocolate Smash Cake." (Remember, make it something that someone would actually Google search.)
Then, hit publish. At this point, Blogger has made that permalink permanent. Now, quickly go back and change the title to whatever cutesy little phrase you would rather it say - "Happy 1st Birthday, Sweetheart!" The title that appears on your post will now be the new title, but if you look at the permalink in the web address bar, it still says "Double Layer Chocolate Smash Cake."
See, it's one extra step, but it might be worth it!! I found this tip here and while it might not be mind-blowing, it's something I never thought of before! I did this yesterday for my Working Mommy Wednesday post. If you look at the web address bar, it says "working life before and after kids." But my actual title says "WMW: Single Work vs. Mommy Work."
