(Tinkled) Pink Dress

My husband always teases me (or gets secretly angry at me) for having too many clothes. And you know what's funny... I'm not even a huge clothes person! I wear sweats and t-shirts and gym shoes to work! But the majority of my clothes ARE hand-me-downs... and I don't mind one bit. I get some very awesome, name brand, high quality clothes that I would otherwise never-in-a-million-years buy.

Sooo, my husband stays on top of the fact that my drawers and closets are often overflowing. Since we've moved to my parents (not for much longer!) I've been wearing the same few outfits over and over. So much stuff is packed away and there's a huge bag of stuff to go to Goodwill.

But when I found this tutorial (via Messy Mommy's blog), I immediately thought.... "Hey! I'm sure I could find a shirt to use!)  And lo and behold... I did!

(If you're too chicken to look because you don't think you're crafty enough, the tutorial takes you through step-by-step how to make a dress from a man's dress shirt... don't be scared!  Trust me... if I can do it, you can too!)

For mine, I actually used a women's Limited shirt and it worked out pretty good.  Had to make a few modifications, but I'm TINKLED PINK with how it turned out!!

FRONT of the dress is actually the back of the shirt. Can you see the taper on the bottom? That's how you can tell it's a women's shirt.

BACK of the dress. This was originally the front of the shirt, where the buttons are. And because I used a woman's shirt, the top button didn't go all the way to the top, so I had to add a hook & eye to it to clasp the top.

I got a little gutsy on this part. Mostly because I didn't trust my cutting and sewing skills to make a super straight edge. So i figured my adding a ribbon, it would help offset any imperfections. (I'm not a professional, remember?)

And my beautiful model!!

The tutorial
LEVEL: EASY/MEDIUM - While the making of the dress is not hard, it does take some time.  Basic sewing machine skills needed.
HOURS TO MAKE:  5 (Mind you, the project took ME 5 hours. I'm sure you could all do it a little faster than I.
