My boy, my sweet little boy, is 18 months old. When Hannah was this exact age, I was 2 months away from giving birth to this boy. Potty training for Hannah was the farthest thing from my mind. I was about to have a new baby and I didn't want to start potty training only to regress when the baby was born.
(We started a couple months after he was born... but that's another story.)
Every once in awhile I catch Noah in action... you know the action. The pause. The red face. The grunt. And when that would happen, I would ask a rhetorical question, like, "Noah, are you pooping?"
Well, here we are... a few months later...
We were outside on Sunday doing sidewalk chalk and Noah came up to me, put his hand on my shoulder and said, "Poop."
And there is was... his grunt face.
I whisked him away to the potty in hopes of getting there on time. I was too late, but I still sat him on the toilet and we celebrated the moment.
Then yesterday, he was spinning around the large, black office chair at the computer desk. He looked at me from the next room and said "Poop." And foolish me said, "Did you poop, Noah?"
I did the ol' sneak peak and saw no poop in his diaper. So, foolish foolish me walked away. Not more than 20 seconds later, I see the red-face, the grunt and the deed was done. I was kicking myself inside for not following my instinct... and following his cues!
Needless to say, we went to the potty, dropped to poop in the toilet, sat him down and celebrated another small moment. To say that I'm excited about him taking the lead on this is the understatement of the year.
Would it be strange to say I can't wait for him to do it again??

Can't wait to play along tomorrow!!! I don't miss those days of potty training!! Best luck to you in that area and I LOVE how you are looking at it!!!
I know that poop face! Maybe that means that potty training will be easy for us?
Why are you laughing?
That's awesome! Go Noah! I'm not even close!
only a mother...
I remember those days. We're out of diapers. Looking forward to WMW -- have no idea how it works, so I'll stay tuned!
Not bizarre at all. Success in PT for the little one is a success for mama too. Hope it's a start to a great trend for you!
2) When I was little, I always wanted to be a sales person. I ended up becoming a teacher because that is what my parents wanted. They never new my dream of becoming a sales person because they believed that sales people did well by cheating others. I don't believe that to be true.
Ah we love these baby steps, don't we. We're in a similar "announce it" stage, but still no interest in putting it where it's supposed to go.
And by "we" I of course don't mean "we" but "Eli."
