You know how you rack and rack and rack your brain for something to write about? I know I do it constantly. I often write those ideas down, but sometimes I just plain ol' forget.
I remember awhile back my bloggy friend Amanda and I joked about the amount of visitors we had (she has way more than me) but she said something like, "That's because we haven't had anything bad happen to us or our family."
I think it's so wonderful that the (majority of the) blogging community can rally around a blogger when something does happen. Like Anissa, or Abby, or Stellan, Kayleigh and others. So many bloggers have been helped emotionally and financially by the blogging community.

And let's face it, that's kinda what draws us to other people's blogs, no? We are invested emotionally in that person's life, baby, child, sickness, etc. And there's nothing wrong with that!! Not one bit. Because I know if that were my family, I would certainly be very appreciative of the love and support of others. And you know what... I don't think any one of those people would wish that sort of thing on another person. And I certainly don't think they are doing it (blogging about their child's sickness) for personal or bloggy gain.
While bloggers who have serious life issues going on seem to never have a day without something interesting and emotional to share... what about the rest of us with "normal" lives? (Normal is such a relative word, you know.) Nothing "bad" has ever happened to my family... Ok, so my son fell off the dining room chair. My daughter scraped her knee running down the drive way. Boo. Hoo. Hoo. And while I KNOW my readers come to my blog because they like reading about me, my family, my thoughts, and my tips, I think it's so important to build your community by working with other bloggers. It's what some people call "your tribe."
(GASP!) What? You want me to link to another blogger?
I think we (as bloggers) are afraid to talk about or link to other bloggers. We wouldn't want to drive traffic to another person's blog, now would we? It's all about me, me, ME! My blog! But your closest peeps, your tribe, are there to help you, and you help them.
So, when there's nothing to blog about....
#1. Join forces with your closest blog friends or tweeple (twitter friends) and each post some of your favorite posts from the week. Link to each other and help each other out! A "weekend reading" post is a great way to do this!
#2. Make a post of your favorite comments from the past week... funny, inspiring, sarcastic, thought-provoking. Or maybe the best tweets you came across that week too! (Be sure to link to their blogs or twitter pages.)
#3. Write a post with a list of tips called "when there's nothing to blog about..." (ummm...)
#4. Link to a few of your favorite bloggers who are going through some tough times and could use support, prayers and love. There are so many people out there and while I'll never understand why certain blogs (during hard times) rise to the top and others don't, this is a great way to spread the word. (One blog I follow is the story of micro-preemie twins... and while they are both doing well, they often run into lots of tests and trials.)
#5. Write a post with a list of tutorials (blogging tips, craft tips, homemaker tips) that you've tried. Show pictures when applicable so we can see how it has related to your life!
Maybe your life is always interesting and intriguing and you don't need these tips. But for the rest of us... enjoy!

It's so true about the blogging community rallying behind each other. When my Samuel was in the hospital last week I was overwhelmed with the support and prayers that we received.
Todays post? About laundry. Honestly? I'll take writing about laundry before a crisis...:)
This was a great post. Insightful and gave some wonderful ideas to help with those days of blogging blankness. That's why I love those random posts as well -- kind of starts the creative juices flowing.
Have a great Tuesday!
Rachel
It's wonderful when we take our own advice! LOL You thought you had nothing, but you really had a lot. In my short little ol' one year of blogging, I have come up with diverse blogging themes, like Simply Saturday, my Scratching Post, Blue Cotton Recipes (always with a story behind it) - but then, life gave me a whole bunch this year. I miss those little years when the drama was minimal and easily contained and solved. My little guys seem to provide the comic relief to the teen angst.
I really like this post Julia. I actually love to blog about other friends and love even more when friends blog about me! It is a great way to get out there and meet other bloggers and it sends more traffic to your site! I would love to have as many followers as you lol but I doubt I will ever get to that point. I am a pretty boring blogger lol and like you said nothing bad has happened to my family so there isn't much for people to read about but my normal ol' life:) What a great post you have here!!! Love your ideas for when you have nothing to blog about!!
Great ideas when our blogging goes stale. Which for me seems pretty much how I have been feeling for a few days. If it wasn't for my favorite memes I'd be lacking inspiration.
I like the idea of featuring favorite blogs and driving traffic to their site. Good idea. Or rummaging through old posts or the comment love. Cool. You're so full of ideas!
Great ideas!! I follow a lot of food blogs to see what other food bloggers are up to. There's lots of great ideas that I could link to.
These are great ideas! Things I have never thought about. Thanks!
I only found your blog earlier today ("hello Julia!" *waves*) and I just love this post. You are spot on. I tend to keep my blog free from my personal traumas but I can't help but comment when I read that someone else is going through a hard time.
A lovely blogger friend of mine (Lollychops) asked followers to her blog to send little handmade cards and gifts to her when her friend was diagnosed with cancer. She then gave her friend a little card or gift each day during her chemo, to help her stay positive. I couldn't believe how many people rallied round and sent stuff - really pretty cards and pressies, all low cost but special.
I'm fairly new to this blogging world but posts like this make me feel like I know the author already, as I so identify with the words.
I'm tempted to post a link on my blog but then I'd be sending people to your blog when I just want Elle Thornton's blog to be all about me me ME! :o)
Just kidding - linking in a min, Elle xox PS Thanks for all the tips!
It's true the crisis blogs seem to get the most attention but personally I have my blog roll list of 20 or 30 blogs and lately I've found those folks are writing less and commenting less. Maybe it's the summer keeping everyone busy!
