It happened at work

May 7, 2008 was the exact date.

I don't take birth control. My body doesn't do well with it (another post for another day) and personally, I'd just rather not put artificial hormones in my body right now.  So, my husband and I choose to use "traditional" birth control instead. And so far, upon my completion of using the pill years ago, the only times we haven't used anything, I got pregnant.

Exactly 3 weeks after one of those times, I had a gut feeling.  I don't know if it was me wanting to be pregnant or the fact that my body was already starting to feel the effects. That was also the exact day that my menstrual cycle was supposed to come.  Yep, I'm one of those that can count down to the minute as to when my cycle will arrive.

I couldn't stand it any longer. I had about an hour before my next team was coming in to work out and I couldn't wait.

Really? You couldn't just wait until you got home from work?  Or even in the morning when your urine is supposed to be best for testing?

Nope... couldn't wait. In the short time I had, I drove a half mile up the street to the Walgreen's and got a 3 pack of tests.  Nope, not just a single test... but three.  One, two, three.

Maybe I should just wait til I get home so Hubby can be there?

Nope, I can't wait.  I went into the dimmed, unattractive 2-stalled bathroom.  I sat carefully on the seat, pulled the plastic open and prayed, almost out loud, that no one would come in during this intensely private moment. Well, maybe it wasn't so private if I was doing it at work.

I said a little prayer, took the test and waited the agonizingly long minutes it takes for the test to appear. As anxious as I was, I almost didn't want to look at it.  If it said not pregnant, I could go about my day as if nothing (almost) happened.  But if it said pregnant...

A plethera of thoughts ran through my head.

Hannah turns 1 next week, which means we'll have 2 under 2.
Two in diaper?
But we have such a small house!
We'll need a bigger car!
How in the world am I going to tell my husband?

I finally got the guts to peek over at the test, and while I probably could've told you this without having taken the test, I had to see the physical evidence.

I just can't believe it happened at work.

(Update: Miss. Candy asked how I composed myself after finding out, but still having to work... it was tough!! I didn't tell a soul. In fact, I didn't even tell Hubby when I got home.  I waited a whole 24 hours to spill the beans!)

OMG, Julia, I thought you were going to tell us that you were PG again!!! LOL, you had me going.

On my way out of town to visit my two best friends from college (and tell them I was 6 weeks PG), I took a test-- in a stall at a WENDY'S on the road! Yeah, I just needed that extra confirmation!

I wouldn't have waited either! So how did you compose yourself after finding out and having to still work is the question!?

That's a great story. I completely know what you mean about KNOWING you're pregnant without needing to see the test. I actually waited two weeks to take it, telling my husband the whole time I was pregnant. He kept saying "you can't KNOW." But I did. And I was.

When I finally took the test he thought I was joking.

Silly men.

You didn't even tell your dh? Wow.

I had to use birth control pills or I would have about 10 kids by now. LOL

That is an amazing story. I would be the same way of having to know. I am no good at waiting for things like that!

I don't know anyone who can buy just 1 pregnancy test. There is always a need to stock up.
Also there is no reason to wait!

I couldn't wait either! I had that feeling too and it was right:) Think we just know our bodies so well that we know when something different is taking place!

I peed, on a stick, at work on July 5, 2007.
Called my husband and said, "Are you ready to be a daddy again?!?"
Yep, Miss H had been conceived (not exactly planned) the night before he left for Vegas for my brother-in-law's bachelor party.

Impressive. I can't believe you waited to tell your husband. I would have called him right away!

Stopping by from the LBS Tea Party. So this caught my eye immediately - you see, I found out I found out the same way that I was pregnant. AT WORK first thing in the morning and it was 2 days before Valentines day! The line was so faint that I brought the test OUT OF THE BATHROOM and threw it on to a coworker's (best friend at the time)desk and said "what does this say...?"

Needless to say I called my husband and sister and mom - the whole workday was a wash!

My daughter will be 5 in a few weeks and its just kind of cute to know that I was not the only one who found out while at work!
