In this rough economy, we're all looking to save a buck or two, right? Or maybe find cheaper alternatives, like making homemade cleaners or riding a bike to work. Personally, we've done a few things over the years to help save money. Last year, my husband started a compost bucket with fruit rinds, leaves, grass clippings, etc. Turned out great this year and when we planted some flowers, we used 1/2 compost and 1/2 garden soil. We switched to cloth diapers last year, saving a lot there too. We recycle everything (plastics, papers, cardboards), which may not save us money, but is good for the environment. We've also started using more homemade cleaners too.
Anywho... I just received the book 10,001 Ways to Live Large on a Small Budget (I will be doing a formal review of the book in a week or so). It's from the writers of Wise Bread, which is an awesome blog/network of writers that have come together to give the best advice on money, finance and living frugally. Seriously, this book is chock full of awesome tips!

Wise Bread was generous enough to donate a copy of the book to give away to one of my loyal readers!! So here's your chance to get your hands on this book (which hasn't even "officially" been released yet)! Here's what you need to do to enter:

Okay, saving money = total coupon girl and ALWAYS on the look-out for SALES (that is, if I'm truly needing something)
Going green = My favorite thing are my pink fabric grocery bags and my "GO GREEN GAP" shopping bag. So, now I don't only have bags for groceries, but I have bags for mall shopping!! YAY!!
Yeah, yeah...shouldn't be mall shopping if I'm trying to save money!!!! ;)
I also follow your blog!! :) And love it!!
Great giveaway!
My favorite way to save money is to shop consignment sales and garage sales. With little kids, you just can't beat the savings. I also sell a ton of my used kid clothes and toys at the sales and make a lot of money back.
Recently, I spent a lot and bought the aluminum bottles for myself, my husband and both kids. In the long run, I will save so many plastic bottles from having to be recycled.

My $ saving tip ties in with going green. Our family has gone vegetarian. We have saved about $200 a month on our grocery bill and after much research it is even better for the environment. It's actually easier to do than I thought!

Yay love books. This one looks like a good one!
To save money I make our own bread, use coupons with sales for grocery and toiletry shopping, make homemade cards and gifts when possible and hope to can a bunch of tomatoes from our garden this year. I also keep an eye out for really good sales etc. At the beginning of March we saw a stand offering apples for $5, a huge box of them. We went to get one and wound up with 2 boxes for $8. I have apples stored up in the freezer now for quite some time.
I follow your blog!
I blogged about it also. :) Thanks!

Something simple everyone can do to help the environment AND save $ is to drink out of a reusable water bottle instead of buying lots of plastic water bottles! Thanks for the giveaway :)
I'm also a follower of your blog :)
couponing and recycling thanks for the giveaway
Best tip all the way around is not to become a conspicuous consumer. Less waste, less money spent. It's all stuff anyway, you don't need stuff to enjoy life.

My best money saving tip is to sweat the small stuff: like buying lunch everyday, buying magazines at the newstand, going out to the movies. These little things all add up.
Thanks for the giveaway!

My best money saving tip is to make your own laundry detergent. It works just as well as the name brands at a fraction of the cost and it's easy to do
I follow now. Thanks. Looking forward to more.
My favorite money saving tip is to use coupons and shop the sales.
I put my change in a jar at night and at the end of a month put it in my savings account.

My fave things is usu cloth material for cleaning reusuable instead of throw away, I also recyle everything. Thanks for the giveaway
Julia, I think the biggest thing that we have done to help us cut down on spending was converting to a cash only system. It is so easy to pull out the debit card and before you know it...the money is all gone and you don't even know where you spent it.
I follow your blog and I posted about your contest on my blog too!

Cut up old clothes to use as towels to not use paper towels.
My best green tip is buy an electric car! (ok, we sell them, so I may be a little biased here) But it certainly reduces noise, and environmental pollution.
Following your blog!
My fave go green tip is walk, walk, walk whenever you can. My grandkids are older now and have moved away but I use my double jogging stroller carry groceries! I did take the top off so I don't look too dorky! LOL!
shopping just once a week has saved me so much money
